Contract Grant Writer 

 

(Part-Time // Year-Round)

The New Orleans Film Society is a 501(c) (3) arts non-profit organization whose mission is to discover, cultivate, and amplify diverse voices of filmmakers who tell the stories of our time. We produce the Oscar®-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival annually and invest year-round in building a vibrant film culture in the South to share transformative cinematic experiences with audiences, and connect dynamic filmmakers to career-advancing resources.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The New Orleans Film Society is seeking an experienced grant writer who can successfully research, write, and submit grant proposals to secure funding for NOFS. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully obtaining grants, excellent research and writing skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines. 

 

Principal Duties:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources.
     
  • Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents tailored to funders’ requirements.
     
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather relevant program data, budgets, and impact reports.
     
  • Ensure all proposals align with organizational goals and funding priorities.
     
  • Maintain a database of grant deadlines and track application statuses.
     
  • Edit and proofread proposals for clarity, grammar, and compliance with grant guidelines.
     
  • Assist in grant reporting, ensuring funders receive required updates and impact data.
     

Skills, Experience + Qualifications - Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in grant writing with a successful funding history.
     
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills.
     
  • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and funding landscapes.
     
  • Ability to analyze complex information and translate it into persuasive narratives.
     
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
     
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Skills, Experience + Qualifications - a plus: 

  • Experience with grant management software.
     
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and private grant processes.
     
  • Experience in fundraising or nonprofit development.

Location: 

  • New Orleans Film Society staff are working on a hybrid schedule, with a portion of the week in the office and a portion remotely. The candidate can work in-person or remotely. 

Compensation:

  • Contract-based, compensation negotiable based on experience.
