POSITION OVERVIEW

The New Orleans Film Society is looking for a community-driven individual to lead volunteer recruitment and engagement for our annual New Orleans Film Festival. This role involves recruiting approximately 200 volunteers by actively promoting our volunteer program to diverse groups across the city. The ideal candidate excels in building relationships, managing high volumes of communication, and coordinating complex schedules. Strong leadership, planning and community outreach experience are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with people from all backgrounds.

TIMELINE FOR THE POSITION

July through October

The schedule for this position is flexible as long as the Festival deadlines are met. We estimate this position will work in a part time capacity in pre-event weeks and increase gradually to a full time workload leading up to the event. 

Full availability is required during the live Festival dates: October 22-27.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers to support event operations.
  • Develops and implements outreach strategies to engage diverse community groups and increase volunteer participation.
  • Represent the organization at community events, schools and partner meetings to promote volunteer opportunities.
  • Create and maintain detailed volunteer schedules, ensuring adequate coverage across the event by assessing the needs in cooperation with other staff members.
  • Plan and facilitate orientation sessions, training and appreciation events to foster volunteer engagement and retention.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for volunteer communications, addressing inquiries promptly and resolving conflicts.
  • Ensure volunteers adhere to safety protocols, code of conduct and organizational policies.
  • Lead the implementation and ongoing use of the organization's volunteer management platform, ensuring volunteers can register, sign up for shifts, receive communications, track hours, and check in and out efficiently while maintaining accurate records and assignments.
  • Manages volunteer benefits and vouchers, distributing them appropriately.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through surveys and feedback, using insights to improve volunteer experiences.
  • Document production processes, outcomes, and recommendations to support future Festival planning.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE + QUALIFICATIONS

  • Alignment to the organization’s stated mission and values.
  • Previous experience with volunteer recruitment and management. 
  • High level of comfort working large in-person events, handling pressure, and understanding a deadline-driven environment. 
  • Ability to work nights and weekends before or during NOFF as needed. 
  • Experience working with arts, film, or non-profit organizations. 
  • Self-starter with strong initiative, drive, sense of urgency & ability to work with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and productivity skills.
  • Posses a form of transportation to move between venues across New Orleans. 

COMPENSATION

This is a contract position, with a total compensation amount of $6,000, to be paid out in semimonthly installments over the duration of the contract.

This is a temporary independent contractor position and does not offer benefits. The earnings are subject to Self-Employment Tax and no deductions will be made from your checks.  This job is not eligible for any cost reimbursements related to the contracted work. You will be issued an IRS Form 1099.  

LOCATION

New Orleans Film Society staff work on a hybrid schedule, with some time in the office and some working remotely. The individual filling this position needs to be New Orleans-based because they need to be on the ground during NOFF and any other pre-festival in-person events/training/site visits.
